Asher is 5

OH this little man of ours.  Definitely not a baby anymore, he has graduated into being a kid.  It makes me very sad how fast time is going, especially when I think about him being in preschool 5 days a week, and next fall being in Kindergarten.  It is so true what they say "The days are long, but the years fly by."  I know he is still young, and will of course, always be my baby, but we will soon be in the land of public school, with a calendar to follow, and it won't be so easy to just take off and go anywhere.
We spent about a year of his toddler-hood not going anywhere, because he didn't sleep when we traveled.  He was a rather "high needs" baby, who was very sensitive to his environment, and was slow to warm up to people and new situations.  He still needs to be told about things ahead of time, and has fears of dogs, costumed characters, and sometimes the ocean, but he now has the ability to ask what he needs to ask, and be ok with most new situations.
He is SO outgoing now- it's amazing the 180 he has done in the last year- we were on a bike ride this afternoon after school, and he waved hi and said "hello" to a lady we passed on the sidewalk, with no prompting on my part at all.
He has made many friends at school, and is a leader in the class.  He has a bit of a competition going on with another boy in the class about who is "top dog," so we talk daily about being kind first, and how it's important to be a good friend, not just first at everything.  He told me today he was bossing kids around, "because I'm 5 and they aren't yet."  Good Lord above, help us raise him with humility and kindness.  Prayers are welcome, as he has a very strong personality.  It will serve him well in his life, but it also means quite a bit of effort in the discipline area.  We are constantly on him, making him check his behavior and asking him if his actions are kind and helpful.  He truly loves school, and is happy to go, everyday.  His teacher knows how to challenge him, and she said he keeps her on her toes.  He keeps them on their routine, and asks her a lot of questions.
He is somewhat of a smarty pants, and he loves being challenged academically.  He wants us to play word games with him constantly in the car, whether it be syllables or adding/deleting sounds in words.  He also likes math problems, and it is really fun to watch him thinking, you can almost see the wheels turning!
Asher also has a sweet side, and it shows with Hope.  He is gentle with her, and is always saying how sweet and cute she is.  He and Hannah butt heads a lot (what siblings don't ) but will then play together for a couple of hours at a time.  He is good at having her be his "do girl," and she willingly hands him the Legos he requests for his various building projects.  When his sisters get hurt, he runs and gets them a stuffed animal or ice pack.
Our guy loves Cars 3 (it's the first movie he has requested over and over again), Mickey and the Roadster Racers, Cabbage Patch Cuties (he has 3 bird ones), stuffed animals, his Zippies, chicken nuggets, apples, yogurt, sweets, and Legos.  He also loves iPad time, and would play for 3 hours straight if we'd let him.  He has a very competitive drive in him, and is always wanting to earn the next reward on games or on the ABCMouse app.  He wears size 5T, though he is pretty skinny, and I am thankful for adjustable waistbands!
He loves to build and create, to draw and write and imagine.  He will sit in front of his Imaginext Pirate ship he got for his birthday and just make up stories, for an hour at a time.  He loves to be a helper to Daddy, and he and Hannah often are Jayme's side kicks on the weekend.
He does still have a little kid side, and often gets a bit melty at bedtime.  "Mommy will you put me to bed tonight?"  Buddy I have to put Hope down and make Mommy and Daddy dinner.  "Will you come lay with me after that?"  Yes sweet buddy!
If I get that chance, he often covers my face with kisses and I love yous, and when Jayme leaves the room he says "I love you Daddy."  When I tell him I love him more than all the stars in the sky, his reply is "I love you more.  However much you love me Mommy, I love you more."  He still likes for Jayme to be on the wall while he goes to sleep, and for me to snuggle him when it's my turn to put he and Hannah to bed.  I will snuggle him as long as he lets me, for I know one day it will end!  He does have the ability to go to sleep on his own now, which is great.  If Jayme is putting him down and he takes longer than 15 minutes or so to go to sleep, Jayme will tell him he's going to come feed Diego, and Asher will now lay in his bed alone and drift off to sleep, without coming out first.
When I drop him off at school, a teacher gets him out of his car seat and he gives me a hug and kiss saying "Bye bye, I love you, have a great day, did you hear me say all my things?  AND feel my kiss and hug?"  I am posting a video of it below, ignore the first part, but you get the idea... he does the same routine with Jayme when he leaves for work in the morning. :)
We love our first born to pieces and itty bits, and it makes us sad that he is growing and maturing so quickly (I feel like it has especially happened in the last few monts, since starting VPK).  Our clingy, shy little boy has blossomed into a personable, funny, witty boy, and oh those dimples...  We love you Asher Cade!
