Two weekends ago Asher and I went to Georgia to surprise my "little" brother (I put little in quotations because he is about 6ft. 3in.) for his Senior Night with the baseball team. I was very nervous about trying to nurse Asher on the plane with some random business dude beside me (because chances are I'd get one of those and not some nice, sympathetic mom). So I called Amanda up and asked her if she'd be so kind as to drive to Jax and fly with me to ATL. She readily agreed! Her wonderful hubby Juan agreed to do the whole weekend solo with the three girls! He did an amazing job! :)
It was no easy feat getting Amanda and Caleb here! Thankfully she left with lots of extra time, which was great because she encountered traffic, a bad accident on I-95, more traffic on her alternate route to get here, and then had an "incident" with a Cadillac (of which the other driver was very sweet, as he should have been, given there was no damage to either car). Bless her heart!! All to help me out on an airplane (well, I guess she does kinda like our brother too).
The flight up went pretty well-we had some drama with issues of oxygen masks on the plane and almost didn't get to sit next to each other (wasn't that the whole point of making Amanda drive up to Jax???), but with some help from friendly flight attendants and people sitting around us, we ended up together! The flight back was a little different. When we got on the plane a couple looked at us with two babies and said "Oh no." I smiled and said "We brought your in flight entertainment!" They said "I hope it's the quiet kind." REALLY??? Because I'm not anxious enough about flying with my 6 month old (yes, just mine- Caleb is a complete angel and just sits back and relaxes through any situation!).
So of course Asher decided it was time to scream off and on (squeal scream, which people tell me is cute, unless you're on an airplane) and to not want to sit quietly in our seat! I tried nursing, letting him drink from a water bottle, watching a cartoon and just about everything else, but it was a little rough. Especially when the plane did a big drop and I had no seat belt on!! I came off the seat, but thankfully I grabbed Asher and he stayed put (also VERY scary for a person who doesn't like to fly). Needless to say, I am SO thankful that Amanda was there with me. She was calm, rational and helped me keep my cool. Despite all of this, I would fly with Asher again. He didn't cry for an entire flight or anything, it was just a little bit rough! He prefers to look around and observe everything instead of nodding off to sleep, which tranlates to crankiness!
In between our flights we had a great time with Mom, Andrew, Dad, Rhonda and each other!
After getting back to Jacksonville (Amanda thankfully had an uneventful drive back to Deltona), I had my last week of school with my kiddos. It went very well, and they have all successfully graduated!
This past weekend we went to Port Orange to celebrate my father-in-law's 74th birthday! It was great to see all the family, and Asher got to spend some quality time with Grandpa and Grandma W. and his aunts, uncles and cousins! Enjoy the pictures!
