November Catchup

Halloween is technically next, but I've gotta do one big post about November or else I'll never catch up!  Halloween needs it's own post anyway- it was a crazy day!
But first, November!  I have enjoyed the warm weather we are getting!  Wearing shorts during fall is fun!  Not everyone agrees with me, but it's nice not to have to mess with jackets and heavier shoes for the kids!
On Nov. 1 (Happy Birthday to Grama H.) we said goodbye to Andrew and his two companions that were down here for the FL/GA game.  They were perfect house guests, and it was nice to see Andrew's face!  Abby and I also escaped during nap time and I showed her another area of Jacksonville, Avondale and Riverside.  They are both little historic areas with large, old homes, near the St. John's River.  She LOVED the area, and despite it being 30 minutes from our house, she found a tiny home there this week, and will be moving in December 19th!  More on that later!

Adorable children's shop in Avondale called The Green Alligator (only half a mile from her new place!)

Memorial Park, on the river, about 2 miles from her new place

Hannah lovin' on her brother and kids reading with Daddy

Love you Uncle Andrew!

Playdough and a painting project we are working on for Asher's room (dinosaur footprints and handprints)

The kids are very into playing doctor, and will use anybody or anything for their patients!  Mommy, Daddy and Aunt Abby and each other have all been the patients!  Asher asks what is wrong and listens for your "heart feet".

In the same vein of the warmer weather I mentioned earlier, Aunt Abby loves the beach just like us!  She is finishing her second week of teaching, and during the week she's not around the house much!  She has been going to a Starbucks out at the beach to do her grad school work and grading.  One afternoon last week she asked if we wanted to meet up with her before she got to work!  Of course!  We enjoyed some time at the beach before meeting up with Jayme and getting some dinner!  Lovin' the FL life!

Asher has been working (again) on going to sleep at night (and for naps) on his own.  He has a sticker chart in his room.  Each time he goes to sleep solo he gets a sticker!  After 5 he gets a reward.  Last week he earned cupcakes.  The kids had fun making them, and eating them as well!  Today he has just earned his second reward, he picked ice cream with sprinkles.  We will go get it after his nap (his first nap this week)!

Last Saturday I took Asher to a classmate's birthday party.  It was Thomas the Train themed, and was at a very cute park I had actually just been to the first time the week before!  One thing they had was painting, which I thought was a cool idea!  Asher liked painting his train and taking train rides on the train they had rented!  Pretty cool little party.  A bit akward, as I knew nobody else there, but he enjoyed himself.  I like the last picture, of him trying to blow bubbles.  He looks grumpy, but he's really just trying hard to make them work!

This week Hannah was my little shopping buddy, as I scoured stores for the perfect outfits for our pictures (mini session) tomorrow with Jenn Hopkins.  She was an angel on Tuesday, staying right next to me in stores, following wherever I went!  We took a break to get a pretzel and check out the turtle pond, and this is what she had to say:
The word of the day is: TURTLE!!!  Love her!  We also comment often on how she walks....kind of said to side like a lumberjack.  Too funny!  Take a look:

She had a blast at the Natural Life store and Disney store and she is currently obsessed with all things Minnie!  She even picks Mickey Mouse Clubhouse over Bubble Guppies these days!

Just love this little one!

Today we got Asher's hair cut and then had a little picnic outside in our driveway.  The kids had a great morning and both napped woohoo!  Say a little prayer for Hannah, who has a nasty cough, though it's not yet affecting her sleep or mood!

Firetruck chair and showing off his fire alarm tattoo!

It's been a great month so far!
I do have a funny/stressful story to tell about Asher!  As usual I have been struggling to get him to nap all week, unsuccessfully.  Yesterday however, was particularly interesting.  I would call him fully potty trained (and right before this story he found me while I was putting Hannah to bed and gone to the potty), so I feel like this is an emotional/frustrating event for him, kind of defiant, but since a day has passed I can tell it because I'm starting to see the humor in it.  I will just type what I texted Jayme:
"I know this will be funny someday, but as usual I am struggling to get Asher to nap.  He's ignoring everything I say and jumping around his bed- he even hit his head on the bed at one point.  I left and said he didn't have to sleep, but need to rest until I come get him.  I just want to eat lunch in peace!  He continually came out of his room, naked, and thinks it is funny.  I gave in and said fine you don't have to wear underwear but you must stay in your room.  10 seconds later he came out and happily told me he peed on the bed.  I put him in time out on the chair in his room and start taking the sheets off of his bed.  He sits there and tells me "great job mommy, you're really good at vat."
Wow! I can only shake my head.  He is definitely getting more defiant and pushing/testing me, but this took the cake.  I know he was mad because I was being stubborn and trying to get him to nap but man.  I actually managed to stay calm, which was only because God was watching out for me!  Today I left him in his room and told him he had to stay until I came to get him.  He kept coming out so I put up a baby gate at his doorway, which really upset him.  I took it down after a few minutes bc his yelling was starting to wake Hannah up.  I told him to stay in his room, and he listened well.  He crawled into bed and went to sleep, Praise the Lord!
I would just stop trying to nap him altogether but he is very cranky from about 330pm on, so I don't think he's ready to stop napping every day.  Also, I need just a few minutes without questions and action around me to just sit and be.  I will say it has been very nice to have him in bed asleep by 7pm every night this week.  Tonight he will be up much later I think.
He has an unbelievable imagination, and someday I will do a blog post of all the things he says.  We just have to laugh a lot about this stuff!
ANYWAYS!  Thanks for reading and I hope to post about Abby and Halloween soon!  Happy Friday!!!
