Yesterday was Asher and Hannah's parent teacher conferences at Kingdom Kids. My mommy brain almost forgot (since we aren't supposed to be on our phones during pickup I usually just leave it in the car, so I didn't have it on my schedule)! Thankfully a little voice popped into my head and said "don't you have conferences sometime soon?" I texted Hannah's teacher and thankfully she answered right away "It's today!" Haha so off Hope and I went to school.
We had Hannah's conference first, and Mrs. Robinson was full of sweet things to say about her. She recognizes her colors and shapes, she is always happy and gets along well with the other kids. She can play by herself well and she is a very good helper. Mrs. Robinson said she is pretty independent- she always unpacks her backpack by herself in the morning and can go potty solo as well. Mrs. Robinson said she just loves Hannah! I asked if she plays with the other kids or if she has ever been aggressive towards another child, and the answers were yes and NO! She told me Hannah is pretty chatty, so sometimes she needs a reminder to listen (like in chapel yesterday, Hannah was talking with the other Hannah and they got reprimanded heehee), but overall she does great!
They are starting to work on letter recognition, and start with the letters in their names. Hannah knows "H for Hannah!" so we will encourage that when it comes up organically. Mrs. Robinson says their class is really great this year, and I told her Hannah LOVES to go to school, and thanked her for all she does!
Hannah really loved the Daddy day they had at school on Monday, and keeps telling me she wants to do Daddy day again. I told her I'm so glad she had fun, and asked her what her favorite part of it was- she told me "the sood" aka the food :). Silly girl.
Next up was Asher's conference. Mrs. Porter had great things to say about Asher! She said he sometimes needs that same reminder to listen and follow directions, but not too often. She said he is very attentive in circle time, is always ready to learn, answers all her questions, and is often the first one to answer. She said he learns very fast, and will definitely be ready for VPK next year. He knows his letters and almost all the sounds. He participates in discussions, and when a friend answers a question wrong, he nicely gives the correct answer, but not in a mean way. For example, they were working on opposites (which she said he knows very well) and she asked what is the opposite of full. Another child said "it's when there's nothing left" which is technically correct, but Asher said "well, I think it's called empty," in a nice voice.
Mrs. Porter said she sees a lot of leadership qualities in Asher as well. He is always willing to help her and is helpful to his friends as well. I do see this at home too, because he always helps Hannah get a snack from the pantry when I ask, or will watch Hope for me for a minute while I go do something, and has started getting snacks for the diaper bag for both he and Hannah, before we go somewhere.
I was told there has been a big jump in his fine motor skills and she is impressed with his writing abilities. He also colors/paints in the lines, which we have noticed at home too. This is all unprompted too, which means he is a bit of a self starter! All good things.
Mrs. Porter says he really has a lot of confidence and has an "eagerness to learn." She actually had him in the nursery back when he had a really hard time separating from us during church, and we both commented how far he has come! She remembers that in church the only thing she could do to get him to calm down was get out her phone and play Mickey Mouse Clubhouse for him!!
She is working with all the kids on getting them to problem solve without her- talking the problem out with each other instead of running for the teacher. This is not a negative per say, but she also told me he is very meticulous about his work, and wants to get it all exactly correct, which means he is sometimes the last one at the table working. So he's a bit OCD! :)
I thanked her a lot because Asher really really loves school. He never balks at going to school, though he is very sweet when Jayme leaves the house, or when he gets out of the van. He gives us hugs and kisses and says "I love you, have a great day, bye bye, did you hear me say all my things? Did you feel my hug and my kiss?" At school he is apparently super sweet to Hannah, and she to him, when they see each other they give hugs and when they separate in the morning he says "bye Hannah I hope you have a wonderful day!" Ive heard this from more than one person! Makes my heart full!
I am so so happy they are having such a great foundation for their many years ahead of school, in a Christ filled environment- they both sing about loving God, and Asher sings "Jesus is my best friend, best friend best friend. Jesus is my best friend, He's always there for me- on Sunday, Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday!"
