Friday morning brought Meet the Teacher at school. Asher has Mrs. Forbes, a lady I worked with when I taught at Kingdom Kids. She is wonderful, and has her degree in early childhood. I was super excited when I heard she was coming back to teach. Asher and Daddy went to the open house in his classroom, and when we picked him up he was happily playing with some magnets, and was excited to show us what he was doing. The classroom was super cute and welcoming, and he was excited to get a treasure box treat on the way out. When I asked him if he was excited he said "I am SO excited! Hannah, you'll love VPK when you get there." I think he will have a great year, though going to school 5 days a week will be tiring for a bit. Last year he went 3 days a week. Dropoff in the morning for Asher is between 910am-920am, and pickup starts at 110pm. VPK is Voluntary PreKindergarten. It is a state funded program, and there are rules for attendance! Without kids being in school, the church doesn't get the funding from the state (we pay nothing for school for Asher). The curriculum is one I helped pick several years ago, called ELLM Plus- Early Learning and Literacy Model, plus Science, Social Studies and some other fun stuff.
Asher currently has 9 kiddos in his class!
Each week Mrs. Forbes will read them a new book, and all the activities during the week will be based off the book. The first week is Brown Bear, Brown Bear, What Do You See? So, for example, for math they would add little bears together. They might learn facts about bears and read more bear books for Science, and on and on! I think he will enjoy it.
Hannah has the same teacher that Asher had last year, so we are comfortable with her yay! Hannah also got to see her this summer during the Summer Fun program they did for 3 weeks this summer. Hope and I went with Hannah to her classroom open house. Hannah explored some of the centers and saw her BFF, Hannah Pugh! She only has 8 kids in her class. Hope loved the baby dolls and wanted to hold one! It was cute. Hannah's curriculum focuses on the basics, a lot of which she already knows, but learning letter names and their sounds will be new, though she has picked up on some of them through Asher. Hannah's school times are a bit different than Asher- her day is a bit shorter. She get's dropped off between 920-930am and picked up between 1250-1pm.
Say a prayer for us as we get back in the swing of things this week, and for mommy's heart, that I am not too sad and push forward with all the organizing that needs done around the house while the bigs are in school. I look forward to having more organized drawers and closets!!!!
Hannah requested a pic of her hair- the Friendship braid aka The Heart Braid ;)
