Asher's 5 Year Checkup

The other day I took the kids to Asher's 5 year checkup.  When I picked him up after school and told him about going to the doctor, his first words were, "Do I have to get a shot?"  I didn't want to lie completely, so I just told him I didn't know, and that we would find out when we arrived.  He handled it very well, though I was having flashbacks of a few months ago when he totally flipped out about his flu shot (can't blame him, I hate shots too) where I had to hold him down while he got his shot.  I chatted with him about how brave he was last week when he pulled a thorn out of his own leg after falling down on a palm tree branch.  He kept asking me to pinch his arm as hard as the shot would hurt, over and over again.  It was a little OCD, but seemed to help him!
The rest of his exam went very well.  He was very chatty with Dr. Silberman, and answered all his questions very well.  He weighs 43.9lbs (his guess was 44lbs) and is 44.25 inches tall.  His height is in the 73%ile.  He passed his hearing test and vision test that is necessary for kindergarten (DON'T get me started on that), as well as his iron test, which came back at a healthy 13.3 (Anything over 11 is great).
Then came the shot.  I sat on the exam table with him and held him while she did it.  He looked at it while she did the shot and the iron screening, and didn't make a peep.  He really did amazing, I was so proud of him!
For a reward we got an ICEE from the gas station near our house.  We were waiting in line to pay, and the clerk looked at us and said "Is that all you've got?  Go ahead, Merry Christmas!"  Sweet!!  Love this sweet boy and his bravery.
