I can't believe Asher is already 15 months old. His personality is really blooming, and he is just a blast to be around. He says a lot of words, and picks up new ones weekly. For example, we talk all the time about puppies and dogs and the sound they make, but he has yet to say more than "da" for dog. A couple of weeks ago we were watching TV and one of those sad ASPCA commercials came on. Well, before we could change the channel (they make me cry), Asher looked at the TV, pointed and said very clearly "puppy." Out of nowhere! He can tell you what sound tigers, lions, monkeys, cows, birds, elephants and now dogs can make too. Here's a list of words he says (obviously he doesn't say these daily and sometimes we have to remind him of them but they are in his vocabulary):
Hi
Hello (hewwo)
bye bye (waves along with it)
Dada
Daddy
Mama
Mommy
turtle
puppy
baby
Mickey (mit-ey)
Minnie (min-a)
uh oh
yay (which he says when he gives you a high five)
toes (he seems excited to see them everyday)
socks/shoes (he mostly says "sssssa" and "shhhho")
Pito (just recently started saying this clearly- previous to this he had a word for Pito but it didn't really seem related)
oval
NO!
happy
Abby
night night
milk (ma) signs this word
bottle (ba)
hungry (hungy)
Please (peas) can sign this too
Eat
all done (ah da)
ball
throw
nose- can identify
eyes- can identify
ears-can identify
teeth (tee)- can identify
Up/ah-bee (means 'open' for both)
ow!
He has said his first two word sentence. He LOVES LOVES LOVES the show Bubble Guppies and will ask for it if the TV is already on. He says "bubble" which sounds more like "buhbuh." Last week I had the Today show on and he says "Buhbuh peas." And was vigorously doing the sign for please. How could I say no to that?!! It's very hard to say no when he says "peas." Haha. I am learning though! This was a one time thing- no more sentences have been said :P.
He seems to understand a lot too- if you ask him if he wants to take a bath he runs to his bathroom. If you ask him if he wants milk and night night he says "Nigh nigh" and "ma" and runs to the kitchen. When you ask him if he needs socks on he runs to his room and opens his sock drawer (notices he runs a lot haha).
He really just spends a lot of time running from room to room playing. He LOVES to read books and will sit for about 20 minutes reading on his own or with you. He likes to stack blocks and hide things under the blocks. He enjoys being outside, although he's not crazy about his little mini swing set we got him yet. We take walks and bike rides a lot. We tried sidewalk chalk for the first time recently, which he liked until he ate some.
He is a very sweet boy as well. He loves to give hugs and kisses. If you hold your arms out and say "Asher can I have a hug/kiss?" he usually runs right over. The best is when he does it unprompted. Melts our hearts! Sometimes he says "no" but usually he does it.
Asher loves wrestling with Daddy, and they often get into a game of chase before bedtime. Asher will run over to me and grab my legs so I can "protect" him from Daddy. It's very sweet to watch. These pics are from New Year's Day. I am blessed with a hubby who love his son VERY much. He really pitches in, everything from feeding Asher meals to changing diapers, without being asked!
Asher is a good eater, and doesn't really reject much. He loves fish, chicken, corn, rice and black beans, green beans, pancakes, bananas, apples, mandarin oranges, avocados, tomatoes, meatballs, grapes, and even has a little bit of a sweet tooth (will happily help me eat cookies, cake etc.). He loves potato chips, and will happily eat his "good food" so he can have some chips. He also likes Keebler crackers, Cheerios and Entemmans muffins for snacks. He has tried and seems ok with pickles as well. He has recently learned how to drink out of a straw-yay! I have given him a new spill proof cup with a straw that he can carry around the house, which makes things easier on me! He only drinks water and milk, which he LOVES. He is still on a bottle before his two naps and bedtime (I should probably think about not doing that but it's working well for us), and he giggles when he sees me pick up the milk. As I noted above he knows the sign for it and does it when I ask him "do you want milk and night night?" He says "ma" for milk and knows "night night." Occasionally he will even ask for milk and night night. He did this one day when we were on a bike ride. He turned around and said "ma" and was doing the sign for milk and then said "night night". Two weeks ago we were playing in his room after he woke up and all of a sudden he says "hungy" and walked into the kitchen. He now says it regularly and goes into the kitchen. I am impressed! He will also look at food and go "mmmmm" when he wants some. He likes to help close the fridge doors too, after you get his food out. Asher says "thank you" quite a bit too, on his own, and even does the sign for it sometimes.
Asher LOVES his Zippy sleep sack and will grab it from me when I'm doing laundry and smile and laugh while he carries it around the house. Check out the website if you don't know what I'm talking about- it's something we couldn't live without!! www.zipadeezip.com In this picture he is wearing one we have retired, as the fabric around the hands get gross quickly because he chews on them! I promise it is clean though!
Update on the Zippy: I wrote most of this a couple weeks ago, but he is now out of his Zippy and into just a regular sleep sack (like a wearable blanket with no sleeves). He has been teething and likes to chew on the zipper of his Zippies. He has ruined 4 zippers (thus 4 Zippies!). Tonight is the second night without wearing one, and Jayme has noticed he is going after the sleep sack zipper too!!! What next?! :P
If he is healthy and everything is copacetic he sleeps 12-13 hours at night without getting up and will sleep from 2-3 hours a day in naps. I think he is trying to switch to one nap (or I'm seeing the beginnings of that) so a few times a week he just rolls around in his crib for an hour during one of the naps. Update: he has only taken one nap everyday this past week. He generally sleeps from 11-1:30pm. Ideally it would be 12-230pm, so he wouldn't get so cranky by bedtime but for now this is where we're at!
Asher is pretty social, which I really like. He was a very serious infant for awhile, and we were worried he would be a big introvert! He likes school a lot, although we are now done with it. When we go to stores he waves and says "Hi" to EVERYONE he sees, even if they don't say hi back. It makes me sad when people ignore him, because he just wants a wave back! Wave at the kid people!! It's very cute.
I know a lot of other 15 month olds can do all of this stuff and more, but of course because he is ours and that makes him a "genius." Haha- we are so very blessed by him and are really really enjoying him a lot!
Ok one more cute story. This happened while we were at Target last week. He had a great morning nap and I was able to shop at Target for a good 30 minutes with him happily in the cart- SCORE! He LOVES apples and we had picked up a couple when we first entered the store. He wanted to hold one, so I obliged, ready for him to do the 15 month old "throw everything on the floor" routine. He did NOT throw it on the floor but rather held said apple in his little hand for about 20 minutes. He just kept staring at it and saying "ap." Gotta say it was pretty cute.
Then all of a sudden, like he just couldn't take it anymore, he took a bite of the apple! I kept saying no but it was like he had been thinking about it for the past 20 minutes and just stand it any longer. I laughed so hard. Maybe you had to be there but I 've been looking at these pics for the last week and just chuckle every time I see them.
And the last thing about Asher: The latest animal sound he knows is a cow sound. We've been practicing it a lot and he's fairly prompt with his response when you ask him what a cow says. The other day we were in his playroom reading books when he goes over to a big book we haven't read in awhile, pulls it out and says "Moo." Nope, no pic of a cow on the front! The title is "MOO," although don't worry I don't really think my 15 month old can read, but he did remember that there are cows all through the book, and he was relating his new word to the book. Yay!
Happy Weekend!
LOVE, LOVE, LOVE everything about this post!!!! I want to run over and kiss his cheeks!!
