22 Months

I change the background on our computer quite often.  This is the one I chose a couple days ago:

Oh how this little boy has changed in the last 8 months!  Yesterday he turned 22 months.  He is growing by leaps and bounds, both physically and developmentally.  He is almost done with his ISR swim lessons, he has started preschool two days a week, and he is adding new words and phrases to his vocabulary daily.  In between all of that he makes us smile and laugh and we are so proud that he is our little man.
He has started saying a couple of words correctly, which is both happy and sad for us.  Asher used to say "ma" for water, and on our vacation he started saying 'water.'  He also says "moh" for more, instead of 'mee-moh', though he does still say mee-moh occasionally.
Asher understands a lot too, even if he doesn't speak in sentences yet.  The other day I was giving both kids a bath- all 3 of us were in the bathroom.  I didn't have a cup to pour water on the kids so I looked at Asher and said "hey buddy can you go get me the cup for baths?"  He immediately disappeared from the bathroom and came back about a minute later with the correct cup!  I was impressed!
This next story is about bodily functions, so bear with me, but it's pretty funny.  When Asher passes gas, he often says "poop".  The other day I was holding him while he was drinking his bottle before bedtime, and my stomach growled very loudly.  He stopped drinking his bottle, said "poop.....Mommy" and proceeded to continue drinking his bottle.  I laughed pretty hard.
Asher has gone to school twice now.  The first day (last Tuesday) he needed picked up early, but so did over half of the class.  His teachers said he cried off and on.  He would get interested in something, then remember he wasn't happy and cry.  When I walked into his classroom he was sitting on his teacher's lap reading a book.  He slid off of her lap and ran over to me.
On Thursday I cried when I left him because he was yelling 'mommmeeeee, mommeeee' as I walked out the door.  I checked my phone obsessively and was surprised each time when there were no missed calls from the preschool.  He made it through the whole day!  Asher and his teacher met me at the door for pickup.  Ms Liz smiled and said "I have a new buddy!  I held him a lot of the day."  She said when she put him down he whined to be picked up again.  She said she made him say please and then obliged him.  I am happy she seemed to love on him as he needed.
On Tuesday I came straight home and put Hannah down for a nap.  It was SO quiet in the house- I immediately missed his babbling while I did chores around the house. I missed him a lot and it was very weird to not know what he was doing every second of the day but I think he will adjust and make friends with the other 7 kids in his class.  His teachers seem really nice- the assistant Ms. Kim is a nanny when she's not working at the preschool and the head teacher Ms. Liz used to be a pediatric nurse!  Both have been at the school for many years.  Ms. Liz says she has never had a kid who didn't eventually adjust.  If it is too stressful for Asher then we will pull him out, but we are encouraged by Thursday's progress.
Backpack all ready for the first day!

We had to do ISR before school!

Waking him up on the first day of school

Asher is a lover of Mickey Mouse (and the show Mickey Mouse Clubhouse), dancing, swimming in the pool, going to the beach, hats, music (he's constantly walking around pretending various toys are 'tumpee' and 'foooot' aka trumpet and flute), blocks, climbing on furniture/toys, counting, kisses and hugs.  The other day when Jayme took Asher to Lowe's Asher kept grabbing Jayme's face and kissing him.  He has been doing the same while I rock him for nap and bedtime.  It's just the best- he puts his lips on mine and holds them there until I start laughing.  Then he does it again.  He has taken to kissing Hannah too- (at random times, barely ever when we ask him to, except at bedtime when he makes the goodnight rounds).  Yesterday she was sitting on the floor and he came up to her.  First he said 'Hah-nah' and then hugged her and kissed her on the head.  So sweet!  He isn't sure what to do about all the rolling she does.  When she gets into a toy of his he says 'peas,' then takes it and finishes the transaction by saying thank you!
He is pretty good at naming shapes and colors, and has started to "see" shapes in everyday items- for example- today I was washing his hands after church.  He looked down at the sink drain and said 'cir-ul' aka circle.  He always seems to notice yellow cars too- it's cute.  Asher has also recently taken to telling us bless you when we sneeze or cough.  Except it comes out 'bosch you.'  He hasn't missed a sneeze yet!
He is currently wearing size 24 months and is in a size 5 diaper.  We just love this little peanut!
