This Week

Well, we've had a pretty normal week, but want to share a few fun things we did, and an Asher story as well.
Asher has been working hard to earn a big toy, by going potty where it's supposed to be, all the time!  He had a bit of regression recently, so this helped straighten him out.  He's doing really well, and has even started taking himself potty when we are busy with Hannah (or when we think he's in bed and he just gets up and goes)!  We are proud parents :P.  So every time he would go potty he'd get a marble in his jar, and then when he got up to a certain line on the jar he earned his toy.  This was Monday's happy event.  We also let him put marbles in for other things like being a good listener and going to sleep by himself.  Yay Asher!  The prize is a Paw Patrol Lookout Tower, and both kids are enjoying it.

Tuesday morning after we dropped Asher off at school I took Hannah to Krispy Kreme and then to Bay n Bee.  We often run around like crazy when Asher is in school, getting errands done because I only have one kid.  However, I've recently decided that it's time to enjoy our little princess and because these years are so fleeting, to hang with my little one.  She had a lot of fun- she has a pretty good sweet tooth like her mommy, and enjoyed playing with the little dollhouse, flower set and rocking elephant before we headed to the store and then home.  I told the kids the other day we were going to Publix and she immediately said "Coookkkieeee?" The kid knows how to work the system!  She pointed to the Target symbol as well recently on a box here at home and said "cookie?"  Though I will say when I tell her no cookie she doesn't get too upset.
She is talking more and more, and comes up with words every day that she has learned.  Yesterday she held up a plastic leaf and said "leee?"  Yellow is also one of her new words, and she says it SO adorably.  I need to get it on video.  Tonight she started saying 'Bubble guppies!""  and has many two word phrases now.  Most of them involve the word no, like "No A-ee" aka "no Asher!" but she definitely gets her desires known.  She's in a bit of a Mommy phase, which I secretly enjoy because more recently she's been a Daddy's girl.  She wants held a lot, and snuggles really well, which has been very therapeutic in light of Grandma's passing.  She is kind of like Linus from Peanuts, in that she carries her blanket and bunny lovey around a lot!  Anyways, it's been fun to just focus on her, despite all the Christmas hurried-ness.

She liked the snowman donut

Equally funny and working the system is Asher.  The kid is no dummy!  The other night he was saying "Mommy, mommy mommeeee!" in his bed, so I went in and said "What do you need son?"  He replied "I need milk and you to lay wif me."  I said ok, got the milk and then went in and he said "Mommy I need you to lay wif me....because I love you SO much!"  Nice, kid, nice.  He has become very sweet towards Hannah as well this week.  They are buddies, following each other around, playing together, wrestling together and just generally enjoying each other company (in between bouts of screaming because one took the other's toy ha).  Asher has looked at Hannah a few times, hugged her and said "I love you so much."  Melts our hearts.
Kids definitely pick up on what you say as well!  We took a trip to the mall this week and Asher was extremely well behaved.  I said "thanks for being such a good listener buddy, I'm so proud of you."  He replied "I'm being so cooperating?"  In toddler land you give choices to kids feel like they have control over something.  I apparently do this a lot.  Last night Jayme and I got to go out to dinner (thanks Abby), and when we got home Asher was up (he originally fell asleep at 715pm and was up to potty etc).  I went in the lay with him for a few minutes and he told me (again) he wanted milk and me to lay with him.  I have recently started saying "you can't have both, do you want milk OR Mommy?"  He usually picks milk :).  Last night I told him I couldn't lay with him because I had to go dry my hair.  He looked at me very seriously and said "Mommy, I'm givin' you 3 choices.  One is to give me milk.  Two is to lay wif me.  Three is to take a shower.  What's your choice?"  Oh good Lordy!
He never actually went to sleep after this exchange.  Jayme fell asleep on the couch and I was upstairs talking to Abby for about 45 minutes.  When I came downstairs at 1145pm, I found Asher laying on his belly, with his and Hannah's shoes lined up in front of him, talking.  "Hi Mommy!"  I said "how long have you been out here, for awhile?"  He said "Yes, for awhile (with his hand gestures).  "I zipped the boots up" I replied "Well buddy that was nice of you."  Without missing a beat he said "I fink it was."  Wow- he was up a long time before giving up and going to sleep, quite the chatterbox.  He didn't nap yesterday, so I'm assuming that had something to do with it, but who knows!

This morning was Asher's school Christmas party, and Hannah and I had fun as well.  She is right at home in his classroom, and will do well when it comes time for her to go to school!  She sat with the big kids and ate chicken nuggets and cupcake :).  Asher was happy to see us, and I got lots of hugs.  He said "This looks like a wonderful party!"  The parents got gifts, and he presented it to me very nicely, with a big "Merry Christmas Mommy!"  He's growing up for sure!

I asked for Asher and Mrs. Webster (his teacher) to get together and Hannah stepped right in the pic as well :)

Video of a Santa version of hot potato- when they got out they had to go get their gift from an assistant :)

Ok I think I've rambled enough.  These are bitter sweet times, as Grandma always read the blog, and so often I think "oh she would find this too funny" (like about Asher's shoe story) and say something like "oh the little Dickens, he is so smart" or that Hannah liked playing with the tiny dolls at Bay n Bee on Tuesday.  Then it hits me that I can't just pick up the phone and call her.  Miss her lots.  Love you Grandpa.
